Ahhhh the lemming rush to judgement, the rush to be first with the answer, the insane rush to be seen as clever, the know-it-all, the chocolate smartie, the oracle.
Me first generation, me me me...the clamouring memes of modern life.
The tinnitus of the constant blaring digital age.
The rising tide of poor and rushed decisionitus...
The safe and familiar uniformity of what is called living...
We are all "guilty" of seeking the relief of a quick answer. It is a natural human impulse. The work is in noticing that impulse and refusing to give in to it. I am glad you found the piece thoughtful. It is a struggle to keep the future open when everything is shouting at us to close it.
This is so singing my song. Creativity is frustrating! That sense of so close and yet so far. Whether it's visual art, music, programming, writing, whatever the endeavor, there's always that sense of wrangling with bringing an idea to fruition. When it gets overwhelming, I know I have to step away from it and take a breather, so I can get back to tackling it again - because I'm compelled to. I don't always know why, but the compulsion is there.

"This is also why creativity cannot be reduced to automation. Systems can generate possibilities at scale, but they cannot stand behind a choice. Standing behind a choice is a human act of courage".
Machines are great at quantitative analysis, but atrocious at qualitative analysis. That requires human judgement, something no machine can have now, or any time in the near future.
I really like that you used the word "compelled." It suggests that the work isn't just something you do, but something that asks something of you. That is exactly the bridge between effort and meaning. Machines can generate possibilities, but they can't feel the weight of that compulsion or the necessity of the task.
"Wrangling" is the perfect word for it. It is a physical struggle. Stepping away for a breather is often just a way to gather the strength to go back into that tension. I am glad this sang your song.
Thank you. That "sitting with the discomfort" is exactly where the character enters the room. Most people mistake the initial burst of ideas for the work itself. But as you found, the real labor is in the selection. It is a form of discipline to stay in that gap between what you have and what the goal actually requires. I am glad that distinction hit home for you.
